Media reports state that the New National Party’s “endorsed caretaker” for the St David constituency, Gabriel Henry, has resigned after being charged with domestic violence.
Police charged Henry with assaulting his partner with a machete on New Year's Day. Authorities say the woman was injured, but not hospitalized.
Henry was arrested but is currently out on bail. He has not commented on the case and is expected to make his first court appearance soon.
The NNP has said that a replacement for Henry will soon be announced. The opposition party is preparing for a general election that Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has already acknowledged would be held this year.
Henry also serves as president of the island's Cricket Association.
Littleboy, please note here that I was not condoning what this "Wanna-Bee" political contender did. I am only surprised that the brother used the wrong method of separating himself from his woman. He mistakenly misread and misunderstood the Bible when it admonishes us to cut off that which offends us. It's a misunderstanding on his part. In addition, we have been conditioned to settle conflicts with violence...ancestors were trained in gruesome ways to use violence to settle conflicts...the seed has been planted in all of us, however, many of us have been fighting such negative behavior and have found success. Others, such as your "Wanna-Bee" politician is not there yet. Please read The Making of a Slave by Willie Lynch.

Observer the law is the law. We can't go around condoning cutlass welding and chopping up our very own. When a devil breaks the law and murders someone, he should pay the penalty to fit the crime. I'm really surprised at you, however each of us sees things differently. I'm no patsy for Mitchel either. That idiot thinks he owns Grenada, he will also learn as time goes by. They all eventually get their due in the process

The Observer you have hit the nail on the head but i will go a bit further as to say that this intended politician should have known better seeing that he had intention of representing the very people of St David and might have been in a position to change laws governing the usage of cutlass as an offence weapon against persons yes he should have known better that being said it is just not the way politician should behave and furthermore what example/message are they sending out to the people of grenada.

NNP has made the right move of removing the brother...would have badly tainted the party reputation and force the women's vote in the opposite direction. Keith Mitchell has made a strategic move that should garner the female vote in his direction. Our people are such damaged goods that they don't simply know when/how to walk away ...the Willie Lynch syndrome is so engrossed in our genes...violence is the only way out it seems...,It's about time that our men and women build within themselves some sort of self worthiness that will empower them to simply walk away form a woman or man, especially when disputes occur. Some of us invest so much in each other that when an adverse situation occurs, instead of simply walking away with our head held high, we resort to violence. I don't think any behavior of a partner, with the exception of self defense, should cause someone to jeopardize his/her future.
