OPPOSITION LEADER CALLS ON THE GOVERNMENT TO EASE THE ...
click
ST. GEORGE'S, September 6, 2008 – The Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition is compelled to call upon the Government of Grenada to respond with urgency to the cries of the people of this Nation who have been complaining that their financial suffering has increased dramatically since the new Government assumed office. The social safety programmes provided by the New National Party Government have been put on hold, which has resulted in depriving the most vulnerable persons in our society of urgently needed assistance. The voucher programmes that provided uniforms, school books (for secondary schools), transportation and milk and food are no longer available to families in dire need. Road works and construction have ground to a halt, putting significant pressure on construction companies, suppliers and their employees: Many of whom were working on a daily paid rate and are now without income at all without warning or notice. Activity among the foreign investors has slowed, and in some cases stopped, causing lay-offs and loss of revenues for workers, suppliers and even bus operators who used to bring those workers to their places of employment. Store owners are complaining about reduced sales resulting in hardships for their businesses and employees. The house repair programme has been put on hold, leaving families waiting for much needed assistance unable to repair their homes with repairs still waiting to start as well as some very uncomfortable circumstances where roof repair projects for example have been stopped in-progress causing great discomfort for them. There was also a programme that provided rent assistance valued approximately between $400-500 a month for families waiting to move into the housing projects sponsored by the Chinese and Venezuelan Governments. This rental assistance provided the only means available to these families for one of the most basic human needs – shelter. Bus operators are reporting a decline in the number of customers riding their busses as people try to reduce costs by travelling on essential trips only, which is now making it more difficult for bus operators to manage with the soaring cost of fuel. The Leader of the Opposition would like to remind the Government of Grenada that every dollar invested in the social safety net programmes now on hold provided trickle down effects in Grenada's economy, and the removal of this social spending is impacting a cross-section of society that goes far beyond the immediate beneficiaries of the programmes. The extent of this problem is highlighted by the overwhelming number of cries for help the Opposition has received in recent week, causing terrible concern about the plight of Grenadians. Therefore like to extend an invitation to the Government of Grenada to put partisanship aside to work to assist them in any way possible to immediately address these urgent needs before the consequences of failing to do so spiral beyond control. I Guess they went to America for the weekend for the debate. When the evil twins come back they will be angry and nasty on this forum. Why these part time Grenadians only see things one way?The girl is worst than the boy.The NDC pays them to defend them and be thier mouth piece. There are some people that will jump ship soon. They did it before and they will get it again.

All those big heads that went away and came back Gairy, Bishop, and keith when they got in power they wanted to stay by any means necessary,do you see a partern here. Some times we see things in our face and still donot believe it.I like to stay out of politics so my mind could always be clear. On this forum everyone has a horse so therefore there is no objectable one to really listen to.Although Hangman at times really calls it as he sees it,but the rest are just going along that is not good for democracy and openmindedness. My dream is for every Grenadian to live above the poverty line and respect each other. We can do it if we start thinking outside the box,and show politicans that we are aware of what is going on,and they will be held accountable.

Observer if you are on a ship and it's sinking will you abandon ship or will you stay and perish slowly i dunno you tell me? Sometimes people have to go away remember it's a small island we travel for better education and openess of mind travelling in itself to see places is an education in in doing so we can hopefully come back and bring something positive to the shores of our home. we dont want to go and get into a corrupted state of mind when we travel we need to stay grounded and keep the spirit of our spice island with us because its easy for our minds to stray and for imagination to run away with us as human beings believing ourselves to really be something we are not and when the real man upstairs decideds to show us who is man we jump on warships to hide does that sound famailar right there in our own country we hide on big ship on the ocean for days no forgetting no man is indispensible thy can be replaced. If this people travel to learn something then I don't see nothing is wrong with that. I wont call it abandoning ship at all.

The only front line i need is here in Grenada.I will defend my beloved Grenada with my heart and soul.I am not a judas as some in government today, when things get rough they jump ship.As it was in the start so shall it be the end.We have short memories, for a quick fix.Remember Kennedy,David, just to mention a few,no love no loyality. They did it before. The more we change the more we remain the same.Wake up Grenadians.

Gabe He is the same Ron I could feel him he running from roots. they told her grenada will be better without her but they lie ants go bring the news when she gone. The leader of the opposition is best there all he does is complain he could get a crown for complaining. I rather think this post suits him well much better than the Pm it's shows is true characteristics he is happy launching a complaint each time he is doing a good job complaining keep him there for good.Let hangman be his right hand man. The oppposition suits them fine Grenada is looking good already Grenadians should be proud get all this cussed people from the top each time and Grenada will always be a brighter place dont give them no moe chances let them stay there and complain dont let their meager words break you NDC all the way let the progress begin .
