LOUISON DISMISSES "RUMOR" MISCHIEF. SAYS PROJECTS GOING...
ST. GEORGE'S: GRENADA'S Business Development Minister Einstein Louison says that any talk that two planned major project here are in jeopardy of falling through, and government losing millions is not true. He calls the reports "mischief and a big lie." According to the talk in Grenada a multimillion dollar tourism development project in the north of the island and a long-talked about similar project in the south at Mt Hartman might all be falling by the wayside. What's worse, some critics say government will lose the millions it guaranteed both projects. Louison however acknowledged that like any major project, there has been some hiccups, but things are proceeding, especially at Levera in the north of the island. "Only Tuesday the developer Mr Cecil Barker, his bankers, the Bank of Miami and the Government held a very fruitful meeting discussing the development of the project," Louison told CARIBUPDATE Thursday. "It is known that the project met with some difficulties like any big project, but Mr Baker has pledged fully to complete the project, and the Bank of Miami sitting with him look is looking at ways to continue funding the project. The Government has given its commitment to ensure project continues and come to a fruitful end," Louison said. Opposition sources claim that nothing has happened with the project in many years, and the government, which wants to get back control of the property, seems set to get into a legal battle with the developer. But Louison said that there are no major contentions now. He said the original developer was unable to come up initially with some of the funds needed and now he is committed to amicably working with a third party to get the project forward. "One of the many developers looking at the area is the Stanford Group, the Antigua-based company of Allen Stanford. They have put forward a very useful proposal which is being studied by the government at the moment," Louison said. Stanford a multi-millionaire is the owner of Caribbean Star Airways and has invested substantially in Antigua and St Kitts. Louison who heads a new department seeking to bring more investment to Grenada says he is confident that the government is aggressively seeking to meet that challenge to ensure the development of the Grenadian economy.
