PM MITCHELL : "I WANT A DEBATE."
ST GEORGE’S, GRENADA: Prime Minister Keith Mitchell said that he is waiting for the opposition to bring a motion of no confidence in his government so that he can expose their own records in a debate. “I want a debate. Bring a motion of no confidence in the government. I have a lot to say,’ Prime Minister declared in parliament Friday. He was speaking after opposition lawmakers challenged him to come clean on allegations that he had received a half million dollar bribe from a German fraudster--an allegation the Grenadian leader has denied. The embattled Prime Minister however refused to go into the full details of the allegations against him saying that it is the subject of litigation. But he accused member of the opposition of supporting previous governments also guilty of wrong-doing. “There are no saints in Grenada my brother. There are no saints,” he declared. Prime Minister Mitchell has been under fire for the last two weeks to “fully” explain the receipt of the cash from Eric Resteiner, But the Grenadian leader said the controversy has been engineered by an opposition eager for power. “Their preoccupation is getting the office of Prime Minister. That is clear to all the population of Grenada,” he said. He made no reference to the fact that the story first broke in a publication in the Miami-based KYC News. Mitchell said the current campaign against his government has been inspired by opposition eagerness to get into power. “I hear all sorts of rhetoric from certain person who did not understand Grenadians had fundamental rights when they had chance to serve,” Mitchell said in attempting to deflect claims that his government has begun to systematically harass people opposed to its rule. “It is said that some people use democracy to destroy it,” he said. Mitchell declared: “When I am finished with them, the nation is going to ask another question. SOURCE: CARIBUPDATE.COM
