Nine students from Grenada, including five former teachers, earned degrees at Midwestern State University’s annual commencement exercises on May 15, at the University’s 86th anniversary commencement. The graduates include Mondel Avril, Peter Braveboy, Janelle Bullen, Kelvin Collins, Kim Fullerton, Gabriela George, Carol Angela Noel and Samantha Paryag. They were among 32 Caribbean, and over 800 students obtaining degrees at the ceremony. Mr. Braveboy, Ms. Bullen and Ms. Noel, all former teachers, earned Bachelor Degrees in Spanish, International Studies and Criminal Justice, respectively. Mr. Braveboy graduated summa cum laude, which is the highest honors category. Ms. Bullen and Ms. Noel graduated magna cum laude, the second highest honors category. In addition, these students completed the university’s Honor’s Programme, completing requisite credits with additional coursework. Mr. Fullerton, another former teacher, earned a Master Degree in Political Science. He previously earned a Bachelor Degree in environmental science. Ms. Paryag completed her Business Administration degree, also earning honors. She graduated cum laude and plans to continue on to a master’s degree. Mr. Collins, who is the current president of the Caribbean Students Organization, and Ms. George also earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. Ms. Avril completed the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree with cum laude honors. She is also a former teacher. Sixteen new Grenadian students will be accepted at Midwestern State University this fall to join the more than 100 Grenadians and over 200 continuing students from the OECS.
