Regional security and deepening the relationship between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Colombia were among areas addressed this morning, when Ambassador Kent Francis-James paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Keith Mitchell. As Prime Minister Mitchell prepares to assume the chairmanship of CARICOM in July, he told the Ambassador that regional security will continue to be a priority. “Ways by which the Region and Colombia can share intelligence and collaborate more effectively on matters of security will certainly be key issues,” the Prime Minister said. Ambassador Kent-Francis noted that CARICOM and Colombia have historically had strong relations and told the Prime Minister that his Country wishes to “upgrade our relationship with CARICOM.” The Ambassador presented his Credentials to Governor General Sir Daniel Williams earlier this morning. During his two-day visit, the Ambassador is scheduled to meet with Ministry of Communication, Works and Transport Dr. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Culture and the Performing Arts Brenda Hood, Minister of Social Development Yolande Bain Thomas, Minister of State responsible for Information Senator Einstein Louison and Leader of the Opposition Tillman Thomas. Ambassador Kent-Francis departs Grenada on Saturday. SOURCE: OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER
