GRENADIAN MOM VISITS HERO SON IN BRITISH HOSPITAL
THE mum of Johnson Beharry — the hero put forward for a VC — has jetted 4,300 miles to his hospital bedside. And she said last night: “I’m so proud of him.” Florette Beharry, 54, who lives on the Caribbean isle of Grenada, hugged and kissed the 23-year-old at a military hospital in Birmingham. She fought back tears afterwards as she said: “He is a credit to his family, the people of Britain and the people of Grenada.” Comrades of the modest private, who left Grenada for Britain at the age of 19, are backing moves to award him the VC for his courage in saving the lives of dozens of fellow troops in Iraq. He suffered severe head wounds. Mother-of-eight Florette said: “He just said, ‘Don’t worry, Mum. I’ll be OK’.” SOURCE: THESUN.CO.UK
