GRENADIAN STUDENT STUDYING IN GREECE
Ms. Karen M. Samuel of Tivoli, St. Andrew’s, is currently participating in the Rhodes Academy 9th Session taking place in Rhodes, Greece from July 5 to 23, 2004. The Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy is an international collegial institution dedicated to fostering a better understanding of the modern law of the sea. Through education on the principles of contemporary oceans law and policy, the Rhodes Academy seeks to promote adherence to the rule of law in the world’s oceans. The Academy was founded in 1995, and operates an annual summer session. The Academy is a co-operative undertaking among individuals from five prominent institutions: the Center for Oceans Law and Policy; the Aegean Institute of the Law of the Sea and Maritime Law (Rhodes, Greece); the Law of the Sea Institute of Iceland (Reykjavik, Iceland); the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (Heidelberg, Germany); and the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (Utrecht, The Netherlands). Ms. Samuel’s participation in the programme was facilitated through the kind generosity of Grenadian Dr. Dolliver Nelson, current President of the Law of the Sea Tribunal. High Commissioner Ruth Rouse expressed appreciation to Dr. Nelson for providing financial assistance to Ms Samuel in the form of airfares related to traveling to and from Rhodes, Greece.
