The 2004 Caribbean Cup tournament hits high gear this weekend, at the Jefferson High School Field at Flatlands and Shepherd Avenues in Brooklyn, as teams vie for that coveted spot in the finals. The competition, now in its 13th year, has so far produced some of the best soccer of the season and seen some exciting games. Last weekend’s playoff matches were no exception, as both contests ended in tied scores at the end of regulation time and had to be decided by penalty kicks. In the end it was Guyana over Haiti, 3-2 on penalty kicks (2-2 at end of regulation) and Jamaica over St. Kitts, 4-3 on penalties (1-1). The semi-finals this weekend (Sunday, August 29) are sure to match previous games for outstanding play. The action begins at 1:00 pm with the finals of the over-40 tournament featuring Trinidad vs. St. Lucia. The 2:00 pm match will see newly crowned Central Brooklyn Soccer League champions Horizon face a determined Honduras Limpido Football League team. The Caribbean Cup 2004 semi-final games begin at 4:00 pm with defending champions Jamaica facing St. Vincent, and at 6:00 pm the red-hot Grenadians will take on Guyana. Admission for these semi-final games is $10 and kids under 12 are free. For information and tickets call 718-859-7300. SOURCE: CARIBBEAN CUP SOCCER 2004
