BROOKLYN, NY- The following is a statement from New York City Councilmember Yvette D. Clarke regarding the effects of Hurricane Ivan on the Caribbean nation of Grenada:
“I want to join with the rest of the Caribbean-American community here in New York, as well as with all people of goodwill, in sending prayers and good wishes to the nation of Grenada.
“As the people of Grenada recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan, I'm asking all the residents of Central Brooklyn to come together to aid our sisters & brothers. As the recovery efforts begin, they will need the kind of goodwill and support that translates into real substantial relief in the form of medicine, water, canned goods, building supplies and clothing.
“My office is in contact with the Grenadian
Embassy and will work to coordinate local relief efforts. Anyone wishing to make contributions to the relief effort may drop off supplies at the Flatbush Caton-Vendors Market, located at 814 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn or at Café Omar, 1744 Nostrand Avenue, Brooklyn.
"You may call the Caribbean American Chamber
of Commerce at (718) 834-4544 or my office
at (718)287-8762 for more information.”
