WINDIES CRICKETERS DONATING TO DISASTER RELIEF FUND
LONDON: The West Indies team have gathered donations for disaster relief after Hurricane Ivan hit the Caribbean. And they hope their performance in the ICC Champions Trophy will lift fans' spirits in Grenada, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. "We've got a lot of guys in the team that have family there, everyone has friends," said captain Brian Lara. "It would be great if our guys can perform and see this as something that can lift a bit of the burden." The National Stadium in Grenada, one of the Caribbean's international cricket venues, suffered severe damage as the storm raged across the island. All told, more than 60 people have so far been killed by the hurricane across the region. West Indies, who play group matches against Bangladesh on Wednesday and South Africa three days later, will have their sights set on a semi-final spot. Lara added: "It's a really distressing time for people in the West Indies with the hurricane. It's an opportunity for us to put a smile back." SOURCE: CARIBUPDATE.COM
