NEW YORK CITY MAYOR MAKES DONATION TO CARIBBEAN HURRICA...

NEW YORK, N.Y., Mon. Sept. 27: New York City's billionaire Mayor Mike Bloomberg yesterday traveled to Battalion 38/Engine 234/Ladder 123 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn to deliver just water to Caribbean victims of hurricanes. “This year’s hurricane season has left a trail of destruction across the Caribbean and West Indies,” said Bloomberg, who showed with with some cases of bottled water. “New Yorkers share a special bond with the victims of these hurricanes and the countries that have been devastated by these storms. RELIEF EFFORTS FOR GRENADA Meanwhile, several New York-based Grenadians and other West Indians have taken significant steps toward organizing and executing the collection and shipping of relief supplies to Grenada. Besides the relief contributions of regional and international governmental and non-governmental organizations, relatives and friends of Grenadians have been contributing via various initiatives. One such gesture was a recent TV phonathon hosted by NYC-based community leader Professor Sam Taitt and Grenadian TV Host and Producer, John Crow. Notable initiatives have also been taken by Dr. Joseph McAuley, a physician, Frances Purcell, a local realtor and community leader, Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus, Grenada’s Ambassador to the UN, and Janice Celestine, Grenada’s Consul General in NY. Other relief efforts include two recent benefit shows organized by promoters Egbert Romain and Booz Taylor - one at The Palace, the other at the Elite Ark, two popular Brooklyn party venues. A third big show organized by TAN Promotions in association with Rocking J, Streets of New York, and Big Mike, was held yesterday, September 26 at the Elite Ark. Hurricane Ivan damaged 90 percent of the buildings in Grenada, decimated the islands agriculture and tourist industries, destroyed the country’s infrastructure, and left hundreds injured, and 29 dead, according to the Caribbean Emergency Disaster Relief Association.
