GRENADA RELIEF CO-ORDINATOR FIRED
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada: The district co-ordinator for the parish of St. David's in Grenada received marching orders from the executive of the National Emergency Relief Organisation (NERO) shortly after she answered questions posed to her by a reporter from the Barbados Nation newspaper. Petra Williams told the Nation that the food received for the people in St. David's came from individuals and other organisations and very little was received from NERO. Williams’ statement apparently angered politicians as well as some NERO representatives. However, speaking to Caribbean Net News on Tuesday Williams maintained that she was responding truthfully to the questions and her claims can be verified by others in the community. A NERO representative reportedly claimed that “plenty food was sent to the parish". Williams held her ground that was not the case. There have being countless reports about what is happening to the relief supplies sent for the people of Grenada. As of Monday, a number of persons in the St. George's area were still hoping that they could get a tarpaulin to put on top of their roof-blown houses. Meanwhile the hierarchy of the police force through its public relations consultant reacted angrily at a Caribbean Net News report that members of the security forces were giving away food hampers for sex. While the consultant was on radio and TV denying the allegation, policemen were privately admitting to their friends and family that the story is factual. Members of the public also reported having seen what is going on close to Fox Inn in St George's. The cry is still on as to the way the food hampers are distributed. Some people have never received a bottle of water or a food hamper while others are reportedly well taken care of. Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com
