ST GEORGE‘S, Grenada: Three weeks after the passage of deadly Hurricane Ivan, Grenadians are beginning to feel its backlash as many workers receive letters from their employers to remain at home until further notice, while some are told they will have take pay cut. Trade union offices even in their destroyed state are filled with workers seeking advice as to the way forward. Many businesses places were destroyed or seriously affected by Ivan the Terrible and added to this disaster was the human one when looters including policemen ravaged seven supermarkets and four other warehouses. The times ahead are definitely not easy for locals here who continue to struggle to make ends meet, plus the added burden of having to rebuild their houses. In the case of Grenada Cablevision 30 workers were sent home and the rest were told that they would receive a 40% salary cut for the next six months after which a review of the situation will take place.
