A CALL TO INVESTIGATE ‘TERROR’ AT PRISON IN GRENADA
ST GEORGE‘S, Grenada: An attorney at law in Grenada, Arley Gill, is calling on the authorities to investigate what he called a reign of terror unleashed by soldiers of the Regional Security Services (RSS) and members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) on prisoners at the Richmond Hill prison. Last Tuesday some prisoners participated in a riot at the prisons and the soldiers were called in. But Gill who is also an executive member of the main opposition National Democratic Congress told members of the media Thursday that the soldiers were too heavy handed and broke the limbs of several prisoners. He related how the prisoners were stripped off all their clothes and beaten mercilessly. According to him in one instance a gun was held to the head of a prisoner and was ordered to urinate in the mouth of another. Gill believes such behaviour by the military must not be condoned and an investigation is in order so that those who violated the law should be brought to justice. Forty prisoners were since sent St. Lucia after Hurricane Ivan destroyed most of the prison facility in Grenada. Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com
