GRENADA BUSINESS SECTOR SEEKS FINANCING IN TRINIDAD & T...
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: Representatives from the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GCIC) are meeting with their counterpart in Trinidad with a view to getting financial assistance to rebuild its hurricane ravaged economy. Grenada's Chamber president Nigel John says it’s a move to make the transition from aid to trade. But as a member of Trinidad's Chamber of Commerce outlined, Grenada still needs significant aid to get back on its feet. Executive Director of GCIC Christopher De Riggs believes the private sector in Trinidad and Tobago is in a position to set up a line of credit to resuscitate the businesses which suffered from Hurricane Ivan. Some businesses are closing down while others are determined to fight on despite the heavy losses. Meantime, the trade union movement in Grenada has agreed to a moratorium on salary increases as well as other benefits in order to keep as many of their workers on the job as possible. The business sector in Grenada suffered a major setback with the passing of Ivan, crippling most of the sectors of the economy. Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com
