MORE HURRICANE RELIEF ASSISTANCE FROM CABLE & WIRELESS |

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands: Cable and Wireless says its support to hurricane-ravaged Caribbean islands has not been limited to shipments of relief supplies and but has also facilitated efforts to collect monetary donations.
Recently a relief fund was established with an initial US$1 million contribution from the telecommunications giant along with a “radiothon” in Barbados, which it partially sponsored raising another US$600,000.
Meanwhile the company’s branch in Panama donated US$10,000 to assist more than 3,000 storm victims in Grenada.
Cable & Wireless has confirmed that it has sent more than US$1.5 million in relief supplies to Grand Cayman, Grenada, Jamaica and in the wake of Hurricane Ivan.
The telecommunications company also revealed that it flew in the second relief plane to land in Grand Cayman following Ivan. Since then, nearly 60 tonnes of relief supplies have been flown on 20 subsequent flights from Fort Lauderdale, Florida
To date, the release said, over 50 flights and a number of boats have been dispatched from Barbados, St. Lucia, Anguilla, Panama and Florida.
