TODAY IS THE 21ST ANNIVERSARY OF THE GRENADIAN INVASION...
ST. GEORGES, Grenada, Mon. Oct. 25: Twenty-one years ago today, US Marines, Army Rangers, Navy Seal commandos and elements of the 82nd Airborne Division, invaded Grenada, six days after Prime Minister Maurice Bishop was murdered and the government seized. On the island today, nationals will be marking the anniversary as a National Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer. A special prayer service is being planned for the Morne Rouge Playing field from 3 p.m. this afternoon with the gospel message to be delivered by Apostle Gerald Griffith. The event is being organized by the National Celebrations Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and Grenadians are being called upon to turn out in their large numbers and give praise to also God for being alive after Hurricane Ivan. The island is currently in rebuilding mode, according to NY-based journalist, Glenda Cadogan, who recently returned from Grenada. But while trees have brought back the green to an island ‘brownened’ by Ivan, the major task now is to help the regrowth of the nut meg sector, said Cadogan on Sunday’s ‘Caribbean In Five,’ program on WLIB radio.
