PREVIOUSLY DEPORTED CARIBBEAN IMMIGRANTS WANTED ICED
NEW YORK, N.Y., Mon. Oct. 25: Officials of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement want seventy-two Caribbean nationals, who were previously deported from the U.S. but snuck back in, iced. A total of 46 Caribbeans from the Dominican Republic reportedly re-entered the U.S. following their deportation while 16 from Jamaica snuck back in. Another three each are wanted from Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, respectively while ICE officials say one each from the Bahamas, Barbados, Antigua and Belize, is being sought. Martin D. Ficke, special agent-in-charge for the New York office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said, "These fugitives all have felony convictions, many for violent crimes, all have been previously deported and barred from re-entry to the United States and are all a clear threat to the New York community. "ICE’s goal is to get these criminals who repeatedly violated our nation’s laws off the street, back behind bars, and then back to their country of origin after their sentence is served." Previous felony convictions for these “criminal aliens” include murder, manslaughter, assault, resisting arrest, robbery, grand larceny, burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Since this initiative began, ICE agents and the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force have arrested 27 of the indicted criminal aliens. Re-entering after deportation is a felony crime that carries a prison sentence of 4 to 20 years. The arrest of fugitive criminal aliens is an on-going Homeland Security and ICE initiative.
