NEW GRENADIAN AMBASSADOR TO THE UN
NEW YORK, N.Y., Tues. Oct. 26: Come November 1, Grenada will have a new permanent representative to the United Nations. Current Ambassador, Dr. Lamuel Stanislaus, told HBN yesterday, he will be demitting the office at the end of the month and will be replaced in the post by Ruth Elizabeth Rouse. He also denied rumors that he was being forced out or recalled back to Grenada. “I’m at home and I cannot be recalled. I’m a U.S. citizen,” said Stanislaus, when asked about the rumor. But reliable sources told HBN that Stanislaus, one of the region’s longest serving ambassadors to the UN, is being unceremoniously removed following a fall out with government. Stanislaus is retired from a distinguished dental practice and has held the UN post for some 21 years. He is also a writer, historian, community activist, husband, father and grandfather. Rouse, 37, is currently the Isle of Spice’s high commissioner to London, and has held the position since 1999. She has a wealth of service in the foreign service, having joined the island’s Ministry Of Foreign Affairs in 1982. She was seconded to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States high commission in Ottawa in 1990 where she was responsible for protocol, culture, consular and development affairs until her return to Grenada in 1996. In 1998, Rouse received the Independence Award for outstanding public service. And a year later was appointed to the London post. The new ambassador comes to the post as the island tries to rebuild and recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan. SOURCE: HARDBEATNEWS.COM
