ROYAL MESSAGE FOR HURRICANE-HIT CARIBBEAN
By Emily Pennink, PA News The Queen lent her support Wednesday to the people of the Caribbean whose lives have been devastated by hurricanes in recent months. She has donated an undisclosed sum of money to a British Red Cross Caribbean Hurricane Appeal which will go towards helping them rebuild their communities. The Queen, who has been patron of the British Red Cross since the start of her reign in 1952, has taken a keen interest in the crisis-hit region. And Wednesday, she met the High Commissioner for Grenada, Joslyn Raphael Whiteman at Buckingham Palace. In November, the Earl of Wessex will visit the Cayman Islands and Grenada, the Palace also announced. A Palace spokesman said: “His Royal Highness is looking forward to meeting those who helped with the aftermath of the hurricane and seeing how the islanders are recovering and rebuilding their communities.” The appeal is raising funds to help people affected by hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne and covers Grenada, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti.
