ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Oct 30, (GrenadaSports) – The Grenada Football Association (GFA) on Saturday officially announced the appointment of Mike Adams as the new Head Coach of Grenada’s National Football team.
Adams, who previously was contracted as a consultant with the GFA, has replaced Alister Debellotte as the coach.
President of the GFA, Ashley “Ram” Folkes said that the executive has appointed Adams to oversee the national team for the preliminary round of the DIGICEL Cup in Trinidad in November.
However, Debellotte, who was sacked just prior to Grenada’s World Cup games against the United States earlier this year but subsequently re-instated, accused some persons of persisting for his removal as the coach of the team.
“I still view the decision to hand me a letter on the 14th at 6:15 p.m. dated the 14th and took effect on the 14th of April as total disrespect. That should tell a lot about the type of persons we have within football,” Debellotte said in a report to Council.
He said that after the attempt to remove him as the Head Coach by the executive, which was rejected by Council, efforts were being made to create an air of uncertainty within the national squad.
“Officials were having separate meetings with players and there were persons who were trying to convince players that the system was not the best,” Debellotte said.
But Folkes said the decision by the executive to remove Debellotte was taken “out of wisdom or ignorance”.
He thanked the outgoing coaching staff for what he said was a very creditable performance especially against the United States in the World Cup campaign.
The other members of the new coaching staff are Norris Wilson (assistant coach), the only other member retained from the previous coaching staff, Dick Furlong (assistant coach), Roderick Griffith (manager), and Augustine Jones (equipment manager).
