MIGHTY SPARROW AMONG PERFORMERS AT "RAISE THE ROOF" MO...
On Sunday, November 21, 2004, Grenada’s Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell is expected to be in Montreal to attend a major fundraiser sponsored by the Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee. The classical and gospel concert entitled “Raise The Roof” - A Musical Evening to Remember” will be held at Trinity Memorial Church, 5220 Sherbrooke Street West, commencing at 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 21. The concert will feature the gospel creations of The Calypso King of the World -The Mighty Sparrow, along with some of Montreal’s best choirs and soloists. “This concert promises to be exciting and uplifting, following the devastation which took place in Grenada on September 7, when a Category 4 Hurricane destroyed 90% of the island leaving 50% homeless and every single school destroyed, says Bertha Pitt Bonaparte, Project Manager of the Raise the Roof Campaign. "A MUSICAL EVENING TO REMEMBER will feature the best in classical and gospel music and will support the rebuilding of the TAMarryshow Community College, the only local institution of higher learning, which has been severely damaged due to Hurricane Ivan on September 7, 2004”, says Mr. Leonard Wharwood, Chairman, Grenada Hurricane Relief Committee. Under the distinguished patronage of the Prime Minister of Grenada, helping to “Raise The Roof” will be The Mighty Sparrow, Grenada’s Cultural Ambassador and the Calypso King of the World, singing selections from his popular Gospelypso C.D. “Redemption”, Soloist Dr. Winston Purdy of McGill University, The Spice Island Chorale, The Gospel Heralds, Danny Pancaldi Combo, SOUL Chorale, Caribbean Voices, Soloist Howard Carr and Zina, winner of the Gospel Maja Awards, among others. Dr. The Rt. Honorable Keith Mitchell will address the audience, giving them an insight as to the present situation which exists in Grenada. He will also use this opportunity to thank Montrealers for their kind and generous support during this trying time following the passage of Hurricane Ivan. The Prime Minister will also meet with the business community and Patrons at a post-concert cocktail reception. Sunday, November 21, 2004 – Trinity Memorial Church, Sherbrooke St. West, Montreal.
