GRENADA PARLIAMENT MEETS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE HURRI...

ST GEORGE‘S, Grenada: The Grenada Parliament met for the first time after Hurricane Ivan discussing matters pertaining to the reconstruction of the country, which would take into account the development of several sectors as priority. Parliamentary Representatives had to settle for the Bell Lecture Hall of the St. George’s University to hold the sitting, since the roof of the usual place for Parliamentary sessions, York House, was destroyed. Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell, thanked the St. George’s University for providing them with the alternative setting. He spoke about the devastation of the country noting that citizens have been severely affected and there must not be any partisan approach to the rebuilding process. Prime Minister Mitchell indicated that priority will be given to Housing, Agriculture, Security, Social Services, Health, Youth, Tourism, and the hotel and private sectors. Dr. Mitchell holds the view that if all put their hands to the wheel, the rebuilding process in the post Ivan period will be on track at a faster pace. He urged all to play their part in ensuring Grenada gets back on its feet. Opposition MP’s joined Dr. Mitchell in acknowledging that the devastation was beyond all expectations and called on the country to rally around the rebuilding process, where all can share in the benefits, socially and otherwise. In recent times Dr. Mitchell has been touring villages and communities outlining to citizens his Government’s plan to take the country forward.
