MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE MEETS WITH FARMERS IN ST. MARK'...
Operations of the newly implemented Agricultural Emergency Rehabilitation Project (AERP), combating praedial larceny and better access to Extension Officers were among the issues discussed when more than 100 farmers, fishermen and other residents of the Bonair area met with Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry, Fisheries, Public Utilities and Energy Gregory Bowen on Thursday (November 11) at the Bonair Government School. Accompanied by newly appointed Minister Roland Bhola, Parliamentary Representative for St. Mark’s Clarice Modeste Curwen and Head of the Taiwan Technical Mission Dr. Luis Chang, Minister Bowen updated the audience on the legislative improvements being pursued to strengthen penalties for those convicted of praedial larceny. The meeting, which was organised by the St. Mark’s Development Council, also informed farmers about available seeds, plants, equipment and fertilizers, as well as technical assistance. The $13.9 million AERP, which commenced on November 1, is designed to assist approximately 3,300 farmers and 6,700 workers over the next three months. Additionally, the Project is benefiting fishermen with boat repairs and engines that were damaged by Hurricane Ivan on September 7.
