ST. GEORGES, Grenada, Thurs. Nov. 18: The Earl of Wessex will be visiting some of the most devastated areas when he makes an official one-day trip to Grenada tomorrow. Prince Edward will arrive on the island by private jet and will be welcomed by a delegation led by the Governor General, Sir Daniel Williams. During his seven hour stay he will also meet with John Williams, chairman of the Grenada committee of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. His tour begins at the Rex Grenadian Hotel before going on to the Special Services Unit and the Grenada Electricity Company, where he will be briefed on power restoration activities. From there he will visit Government House, which was almost totally destroyed. This was the official residence of Governor General Sir Daniel Williams before the passage of the Hurricane Ivan. He will also visit the remains of the Roman Catholic Cathedral, Parliament House, the St. George’s Anglican Church and the National Stadium. A former British Colony, Grenada gained its independence from England in 1974. However, the Queen is still the titular head of state and is represented by the Governor General. This is the Earl’s second visit to Grenada in six months. SOURCE: HARDBEATNEWS.COM
