The Republic of China on Taiwan has provided an additional $2 million (US) to the Government of Grenada to assist in the recovery process. Ambassador Allan Jiang presented the cheque for $2 million (US) to Prime Minister Keith Mitchell during a brief ceremony on Tuesday (November 16), bringing the total financial assistance from the ROC to $4.7 million (US) since September 7. The Ambassador also said his Government is committed to providing funds towards rebuilding the Grenada National Stadium and informed that an engineering team will arrive in Grenada before the end of the month to do an assessment for the Stadium. Prime Minister Mitchell said the Government and people of Grenada are most grateful for this show of support at this time. “Today’s effort must be complimented,” the Prime Minister said, adding that “we are highly appreciative of the commitment to rebuild the National Stadium.” The Prime Minister said the rebuilding of the Stadium is not just about the facility. “It’s about the future national psyche of the Country,” he said, adding that Cricket World Cup 2007 will “showcase the rebirth of Grenada.” SOURCE: OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER
