OVERSEAS PLAYERS FOR GRENADA IN CFU/DIGICEL CARIBBEAN C...
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Nov 16 (GrenadaSports ) – Grenada has begun to strengthen its team ahead of the Group D Stage of the CFU/DIGICEL Caribbean Cup Tournament in Trinidad next week. Defender and captain, Anthony Modeste of Portmore FC of Jamaica joined the team on Tuesday and midfielder Shalrie Joseph of the United States’ New England Revolution was expected here on Thursday. English-based players, Jason Roberts left (Wigan Athletic) and midfielder Byron Bubb (Dover Athletic) are expected to join the team by weekend. The team which lost to St Vincent and the Grenadines in a friendly on Saturday is expected to be changed for the Trinidad tournament. Most of players used were inexperienced players as the technical staff continues to scout for talent. The team will have a final warm-up on Saturday, a return fixture against St Vincent and the Grenadines, at the Taneen Recreation Ground. However, the team will be without only two main players from their recent World Cup campaign against the United States. Goalkeeper Kellon Baptiste has opted to play Major Indoor Soccer with the St Louis Steamers in the United States and Tony Bedeau of Torquay FC has not been called up. Meantime, goalkeeper coach Glad Bugariu will be assisting the national team in its preparation for the tournament. Romanian-born Bugariu joined the coaching staff on Tuesday and will begin his stint with the goalkeepers on Wednesday morning. He has been credited for the improved performance of Kellon Baptiste against the United States last June in Ohio. Bugariu is also director of coaching at the State University of New Mexico, USA.
