FOOTBALL RETURNS TO GRENADA
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada, Nov 20- International football returned to Grenada on Saturday for the first time since the island was devastated by Hurricane Ivan six weeks ago, with the hostS beating St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-2. Ricky left Charles' second goal of the game in the 88th minute secured the victory. The match was preparation for both sides, which begin qualifying for the CONCACAF Gold Cup next week. Grenada will travel to Trinidad and Tobago to play Trinidad, Puerto Rico and Suriname while St Vincent will host Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands for a series of games from Wednesday to Sunday. The match was the return leg after St Vincent beat Grenada 6-2 at the Arnos Vale Playing Field a week ago. Saturday's match drew a crowd of about 3,000 spectators in Gouyave, a fishing town about 18 kilometres north of the capital. Hurricane Ivan struck September 7, killing 39 people and damaging or destroying 90 per cent of Grenada's buildings. Jamaica-based Anthony Modeste gave Grenada the lead in sixth minute and Charles doubled seven minutes later. Kenlyn Gonsalves and Renson Haynes equalised for St. Vincent with goals in 17th minute and 18th minute before Charles won it with his second goal. SOURCE: OECSATHLETE.COM
