US GOVERNMENT GIVES UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT TO GRENADA P...
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: The Grenada police force received a much-needed boost recently when the United States Government presented them with US$50,000 worth of uniforms. The force, like most of Grenada, received a severe battering from Hurricane Ivan which hit the island on September 7, 2004, leveling almost everything including police headquarters and other police stations. On Thursday November 18, 2004, United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Mary Elizabeth Kramer presented the uniforms to Minister for Security, Einstein Louison, who expressed his sincere gratitude for the kind gesture. The shipment consists of trousers, shirts, shoes, socks, safety vests and flashlights. The donation comes from the US State Department as a direct response to a request from the Government of Grenada. In addition to the gift of uniforms, Ambassador Kramer also last week signed a Memorandum of Understanding in which, the United States Government provided the Government of Grenada with US$42 million towards hurricane recovery. To date the US Government aid response to the hurricane disaster amounts to over US$46.16 million. Reprinted from Caribbean Net News caribbeannetnews.com
