PM MITCHELL IN OTTAWA
Prime Minister Keith Mitchell held a forum with Grenadian and Caribbean nationals in Ottawa on Monday evening, during which he provided an update on the recovery and rebuilding process and launched an appeal for continued assistance to Grenada. The meeting, which began at 7 p.m. and took place at 180 Wellington Building, was organized by the High Commission for the Countries of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) in Ottawa, and was attended by several Grenadian and CARICOM nationals. Following his presentation, Prime Minister Mitchell responded to questions from persons attending the event. High Commissioner for the Countries of the OECS Lorraine B. Williams presented Prime Minister Mitchell with a cheque for $20,000 (CDN), representing donations received from the Ottawa community and proceeds from the High Commission’s fundraising efforts. In accepting the donation, Prime Minister Mitchell expressed gratitude, on behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, for the support and solidarity of the Ottawa community. Prime Minister Mitchell was on a one-day working visit to Ottawa during which he held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Anne McClellan and Minister of International Cooperation Aileen Carroll. The Prime Minister also visited the Canadian House of Commons where his presence was acknowledged during Question Period. A reception was held in his honour by Hon. Peter Milliken MP, Speaker of the House of Commons. The Prime Minister departed Ottawa on Tuesday and is scheduled to return to Grenada on Wednesday. SOURCE: OECS HIGH COMMISSION
