ST.ANDREW’S GRENADA - The St.Andrews Relief Organisation met with the leaders of the Salvation Army in the Caribbean for the third time and a decision was made to begin repairing roofs of houses in the Soubise and Marquis areas before moving to Harford Village and Telescope. A quotation for material from one of the local hardware stores in St. Andrew was approved pending final documentation. It was requested that all galvanize sheets must be at least 25 gauge to meet a Category 5 Hurricane specifications and that specific terms of payments, etc must be included. It was hoped that possibly one of the leading group of carpenters in the world, the Mennonites may be asked to do part of the work as they pass on their skills to local persons in the villages. Speaking at the end of the meeting Major Olivia Gulley thanked SARO for its leg work so far and donated another two chainsaws for use in the next program --the Agricultural program. SARO was also sad to see a very important hands-on volunteer of the Salvation Army Mr. Stephen Young having to leave us in Grenada and to return to England after his remarkable stint in Grenada. Steve has been here almost immediately after the passage of Hurricane Ivan. SARO expressed appreciation to the International Salvation Army and Stephen Young. Source: SARO
