WORLD CUP CRICKET OFFICIALS FOR GRENADA TODAY
ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Dec. 8: Grenada's status as a host venue for the 2007 World Cup Cricket competition following the devastation wrecked by Hurricane Ivan, will be determined by World Cup West Indies officials today. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007, Chris Dehring along with Chief Operating Officer and Venue Development Director, Don Lockerbie, are set to meet with Grenada’s Prime Minister Keith Mitchell and tour the damaged Queen's Park sports complex later today, CMC reports indicate. The visit is to ascertain whether the island will be able to honor its commitment as a host country for the world cup in 2007, given the decimation it suffered from Ivan. Taiwanese officials have pledged to provide US$40 million and engineers to help rebuild the stadium that was destroyed on Sept. 7. Taiwan's Ambassador to Grenada, Alan Lii-Shang Jiang recently made a US $2 million donation to the Grenada government as an installment on the stadium reconstruction.
