ICC CWC SATISFIED WITH GRENADA'S PREPARATIONS FOR CWC 2...
International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup Officials have expressed satisfaction with Grenada’s readiness for the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007. CEO and Managing Director Chris Dehring and Venue Development Officer Donald Lockerbie were in Grenada yesterday, viewing the designs for the construction of a new stadium. During a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon Keith Mitchell, Mr. Dehring and Mr. Lockerbie, who were accompanied by Chairman of the Grenada CWC Local Organising Committee Roy O’Neale, stated that they were deeply impressed with the new designs. They noted that the new designs rank among the best stadiums on display for the cricket extravaganza in the next three years. Prime Minister Mitchell assured the officials that the Country will construct a better and more modern day facility than the one that was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan. He said support for this has already been secured from friendly countries, including the Republic of China (ROC). The Prime Minister also assured the officials that other aspects of Grenada’s readiness are beginning to fall in place with the Country’s hotel stock being refurbished and expanded. Many of the bigger and more luxurious hotels, which will be opened in late 2005, are gearing up for the Cricket World Cup with additional rooms and other facilities being part of their expansion. The officials will report on Grenada’s readiness for Cricket World Cup 2007 to an ICC meeting today in Monaco. Source: Government Information Service
