GRENADA AND SVG CLASH IN CFU TOURNEY ON SUNDAY
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, (GrenadaSports) – The national senior football team will play St Vincent and the Grenadines in the CFU/DIGICEL Cup Tournament in Kingstown on Sunday. The Grenada Football Association (GFA) was originally informed that St Vincent and the Grenadines were unable to host their home game because their main venue the Arnos Vale Playing Field was unavailable and were prepared to play both matches in Grenada. The GFA has already secured permission for use of the cricket stadium for the matches on December 17 and 19. However, the General Secretary of the GFA, Victor Daniel was informed by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Association on Monday that there was a misunderstanding and that St Vincent will host their leg of the tournament on December 12. The information from St Vincent came shortly after the President of the GFA, Ashley “Ram” Folkes and Daniel made an inspection of the available facilities at the Cricket Stadium on Monday. Both officials also spoke to Chief Groundsman Michael Smith, who is charged with preparing the playing area for the ‘matches’. “We are satisfied that we can play football here once the grass is cut. Our only concern was the safety of patrons but we have examined ourselves and spectators will use the concrete bleachers to the east of the stadium,” Folkes said. The posse stands were not affected during Hurricane Ivan but the main stand and the roofs of both the players and media pavilions were destroyed. The posse stands could accommodate about 5,000 spectators. Mr Folkes said attention will be given to the dressing rooms this week since they need to clean some debris brought on by Hurricane Ivan.
