GRENADA LOSES TO SVG IN CFU/DIGICEL CUP
St Vincent, Dec 12 (GrenadaSports) – Grenada lost to St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-1 in their first leg of the Second Round of the CFU/DIGICEL Cup Tournament at the Grammar School Ground. SVG took the lead as early as the 10th minute when Shandel Samuel lobbed a ball over the head of two defenders and goalkeeper Andray Baptiste. Grenada should have equalised three minutes later when Ricky Charles curled a corner kick and Denis Rennie's header went wide. SVG added to their lead in the 22nd minute when Samuel neatly passed the ball to Alwyn Guy inside of the box and hit home at point blank range. Charles again troubled the Vincentian defence as he combined with Rennie but goalkeeper Melvin Andrews used his body to block Charles' shot. And before the interval, Anthony Modeste, Dorset Langaigne and Shane Rennie all found themselves being stretcher off the field at some point. Denis Rennie brought Grenada back in the game with a 56th minute goal as he eluded two defenders and then tricked goalkeeper Andrews to his right. But Grenada gave up a free kick in the 60th minute and Kendal Velox dissected the Grenadian defence with a header which beat goalkeeper Baptiste. Grenada will need to beat St Vincent and the Grenadines by two clear goals in their return fixture scheduled for the Cricket Stadium at Queen’s Park on Sunday December 19.
