MTV PITCHES IN TO HELP CARIBBEAN HURRICANE VICTIMS
NEW YORK, N.Y., Weds. Dec. 15: MTV Network has become the latest U.S. company pitching in to help Caribbean victims of hurricanes. The network yesterday announced plans to collaborate with The American Red Cross and Universal Music Group to host an on-line auction at MTV.com, through December 20th, to raise funds for continuing hurricane relief operations. Items to be auctioned off include three one of a kind dresses worn by Destiny's Child for the MTV Destiny's Isle Promotion; autographed VMA posters of Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera; an autographed Wyclef Jean guitar; Ludacris concert tickets and a trip to Amsterdam for February 4th 2005; a travel package to Grenada; 4 TRL passes and 2 tickets to the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America. Seventy-five percent of the sale price of each item sold through the MTV Caribbean Relief auction will go to the American Red Cross relief efforts in the Cayman Islands, Haiti and Grenada. A press conference promoting the event will be held by the Grenada Tourism Board in New York City tomorrow, December 16th, at the Park Central New York Hotel from noon to 1:30 pm. MTV VJ Quddus, who is of Haitian descent, and MTV2 VJ Amanda Diva, a Grenada native, will appear live at the media event to encourage participation in the auction. Prices range from $710 to $20. "This is a time of year when it's important to be thankful for all that we have, and to make sure we help others who are less fortunate than ourselves," said MTV Networks Chairman and CEO Judy McGrath. "I'm proud that MTV Networks, The Red Cross and the Universal Music Group can come together to both raise some much-needed money for the people of the Caribbean, and make some music fans really happy." In addition to the funds raised by the online auction, MTV Networks is also matching the proceeds up to $50,000.To bid,log on to www.auction.mtv.com/.
