CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING AT GRENADA PORTS AUTHORITY
St. George, Dec. 17 --- Despite the torrential rains which fell in St. George on Thursday night, more than a thousand Grenadians descended on the grounds of the newly handed-over Welcome Center to witness the first annual lighting of the Christmas tree donated by Volker Steven and Zublin (Grenada) limited --- creators of the Melville Street cruise port. Performing the honour of turning the switch was Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Gregory Bowen, while the Royal Grenada Police Force Band, and the new Dimensions Steel orchestra provided entertainment. Chairman of Zublin, Ambassador Jan Bosch expressed his delight at last night’s turn out, and has pledged to eventually take this tree-lighting affair to all of Grenada’s parishes. This event came in the wake of Wednesday's handing over of the new port facility and welcome center to the Grenada Ports Authority. A duty free shopping center was also launched and is expected to be completed in summer of next year. Zublin also announced the US$400 million St. George Revitalization Project; a development which is expected to commence here early in 2006, and is intended to ease the traffic congestion in St. George, enhance living conditions in the city and redevelop Grenada’s yachting industry.
