GRENADIAN STUDENTS ON TAIWANESE SCHOLARSHIPS UNAFFECTED...
TAIPEI, Taiwan, Weds. Dec. 22: Four Grenadian students studying in Taiwan on scholarships provided by that country’s government have so far remained unaffected by the diplomatic fallout. One of the students there told HBN yesterday, “at the moment no one has said anything to us (and) presently my friends and I are not affected.” The comment came a day after Grenada’s Prime Minister Keith Mitchell, in an address to the nation, stopped short of saying whether he will sever 15-year-old diplomatic relations with Taiwan completely and choose to establish ties with mainland China instead. It also came on the same day when the government of Mexico formally presented an offer of 50 full undergraduate scholarships for Grenadian students to study at Mexican universities, from the fall semester in 2005. The 50 scholarships, which according to a government statement, will be provided annually, will cover tuition, accommodation and transportation. Successful candidates will be required to study Spanish for six months, commencing in March 2005 in preparation for university in August 2005. The Department of Human Resources in the Prime Minister’s Ministry will coordinate the selection process for eligible candidates. Reprinted from hardbeatnews.com
