WEEKEND OF PRAYER TO MARK START OF NEW YEAR IN GRENADA
The Ministry of Ecclesiastical Relations, in collaboration with the Interfaith Group, calls upon all citizens to recognise Friday, December 31, 2004 to Sunday, January 2, 2005 as a Weekend of Prayer under the theme “Acknowledge our dependence on God and interdependence on each other.” Minister of Ecclesiastical Relations Senator Ann David-Antoine said the theme for the Weekend of Prayer was made at the most recent meeting of the Interfaith Group, which was convened on December 9 at which 20 members from various denominations attended. “We will not be having any special services. Rather, we decided to call upon all citizens to recognise the presence of God in their lives and, through their places of worship as well as in their homes and communities generally, to accept that we depend on God and each other,” Minister David-Antoine said. The Ministry has also informed all denominations about the Weekend of Prayer by letter. The Ministry was established in January 2004, in response to requests from the religious community during previous consultations with Prime Minister Keith Mitchell and in keeping with recommendations of the National Crime Strategy. The first meeting of the Interfaith Group was held in March 2004. Source: Government Information Service
