CARIBBEAN LEADERS' HOPES FOR CRICKET WORLD CUP |
|
|
The Cricket World Cup, which is now just 11 weeks away, has featured prominently in the New Year's message of several Caribbean leaders.
The prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Douglas, said this year could be a turning-point in the twin-island Federation.
A time, he said, to grasp every available opportunity, such as the world cup, to push the country forward.
Dr Douglas told his people: "Let's get ready, finally, to welcome the world."
The president of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, echoed similar sentiments, urging his fellow Guyanese to ensure that the best interests of the country are served, especially as the cricket world will be focused on the region.
Jamaica's Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller, challenged Jamaicans to show their finest qualities in welcoming visitors for the World Cup, the opening ceremony of which will be in Jamaica on 11 March.
