CATEGORY:SPECIAL EVENT ----------------------------- By Wallace J.A Inside Grenada correspondent Saturday January 13,2007 THE SERVICES of Mr. Henry Paryag, who was magistrate of Grenada’s number two court, has been terminated. He received his letter of termination - from the Governor General, acting on the advice of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission - sometime in December to take effect from January 01, 2007. Mr. Paryag has served as a magistrate in Grenada for about eight years. He was first appointed in 1998 and served for two successive contractual terms (1998-2000 and 2000-2002). From 2002 to the end of 2006, he worked on a month to month basis. Earlier on this week, President of the Grenada Bar association, Mr. Ruggles Ferguson, expressed concerns over the termination of the services of Mr. Paryag without a replacement and the ensuing build-up of cases. About sixty (60) cases have been adjourned as a result of Mr. Paryag’s termination. Legal Affairs Minister, Mr. Elvin Nimrod, has since stated that Mr. Paryag was not on the government’s permanent establishment and was employed on a month to month basis, therefore, the government had the choice to renew or not renew his contract and it chose not to renew it. It is the belief of some persons that the government has been dissatisfied with the work of Mr. Paryag. Grenadian Connection (GC) has not received any information to date about a replacement for him.
