CATEGORY:HEALTH ---------------------- By Trevor Thwaites Inside Grenada correspondent Thursday January 18,2007 ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada - Ten new local doctors will soon be posted at various sections of the Health Services across the country, after completing a one-year Internship at the General Hospital. They have all studied for the past seven years at Universities in Cuba, Ireland and St George’s. Six of the practitioners were introduced to the media at a Press Conference last week Thursday at the Ministerial Complex in St George’s. They are: Jude Antoine, Molara Alexis, Rantia Andrew, Kenroy Hinds, Meachel James and Daniel St Louis. Health Minister, Senator Ann David Antoine, who introduced the new recruits to the press, said that it is all part of the plans by the ministry to boost the health services. “Government has taken the initiative as part of the process of improving the quality and the standard of care in the country, to employ all of the doctors, to increase the numbers so that a better quality of service will be available.” She said the new doctors will be working as part of a team made up of members of the health service to raise the standard of care. The minister is confident that the recruits will contribute towards the reduction of the waiting time for accidents and emergencies at the General Hospital. “In response to the concerns of the public, the government is making every effort to ensure that we improve the quality and standard of care”, the health minister told reporters. She said that in addition, several other health professionals are being added to the system. “We have also recently employed a new Chief Medical Doctor, who started work on the 22nd of December, 2006 –Dr Mukogee - and three new members forming the core of the Nurses Management Team at the start of January.” Senator Antoine said that a quality improvement officer with extensive experience in nursing and health care, has also bee recruited and will be starting work very shortly. “ I think that we have started 2007 on the right foot as we move forward for the advancement of the health services. There is a new trust by the government to take on board very seriously, the concerns and issues expressed by the public and put into place the appropriate measures for the advancement of health care.”
