CATEGORY:RELIGION ---------------------- By Lyndon St.Cyr Inside Grenada contributor Monday January 29,2007 DID GOD really make the first move? Let’s investigate the gift spoken of in John 3:16. There is no doubt that JESUS actually lived and actively participated in, if not challenged, the culture of his day. The historian Josephus also attests to the ministry of Christ and His unique personality and message. One of the things that stand out about Jesus is that He was perfect in purity. If I were to declare that I am pure, you may immediately assume that there are some things I do not do some places I don’t go or maybe some attitudes I don’t espouse. In other words our definition of purity suggests that it is the absence of something. JESUS, on the contrary, rearranges our concept of reality as related on the mount of transfiguration. Here, Jesus, in the company of Peter, James and John, had an experience which caused His body to emit a resplendent glow in the presence of what appears to be two prophets of old. Peter, in the middle of this weird experience, promptly suggests that temples be built and that they remain in such a state. What was it about this presence that would cause an experienced fisherman as Peter to want to give up everything he had ever known or felt? Peter seemed to realize that with Jesus he did not just experience the absence of impurity but the very presence of absolute purity. We encounter the Master today in a way that completely challenges our trend of thought and the way we treat others. You may never have truly understood why Jesus Christ seems to stand out among other religious leaders but I exhort you now to give Him and His message a second chance. It was a physicist who said that “…if you want to understand the workings of the eye you must first understand the properties of light.” Because of God’s very nature we find that in His presence language is exhausted and concepts are beggarly for HE totally envelops the spirit within that yearns for Him. Today if you hear His voice do not harden your heart. Blessings.
