OUEEN’S PARK, St. George’s: Today, a ceremony was held at the National Stadium in St. George’s to allow the Chinese to officially hand over the cricket facility to the Government of Grenada.
The ceremony was attended by Governor General Sir Daniel Williams, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, Opposition parliamentarians, Government officials and NGOs as well as officials from the People’s Republic of China. A symbolic key was handed over to Dr. Mitchell by the head of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Wang Rumsheng
Prime Minister Mitchell was very ecstatic and was high in praise for the hard work undertaken by the Chinese in building the magnificent facility. Dr. Mitchell stated that when he first entered the facility, he felt like if he was at Lord’s in England.
When work began on the facility, many Grenadians and people from around the region were very skeptical as to whether the Chinese could have completed work on the structure on time. The dedicated Chinese however, were able to honor their promise and officially handed over the stadium to the Government and people of Grenada on schedule
