The NNP has been in office since 1995 - for three consecutive terms. In the last general election, the NNP won 8 of the 15 seats that were contested. ON THE MORNING OF Saturday, February 3, 2007, a time that marks the handing over of the National Stadium by the People’s Republic of China to the Government and People of Grenada, we had a very unfortunate and embarrassing occurrence. The Royal Grenada Police band played the national anthem of Taiwan (ROC) instead of the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Our distinguished Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell came to our aid by offering an impassionate and sincere apology on behalf of the Government and People of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. He gave the Chinese Government and People of Grenada the assurance that a full investigation will be conducted and the appropriate action would be taken upon the completion of said investigation. To a greater degree, we are AGAIN being embarrassed by the behaviour of the Opposition Party (NDC) at a time when we, as a nation, should be resolute in our show of remorse. Their gloating as Grenada hurts is nothing new (just revisit their hurricane Ivan behaviour), but the deliberate transmission of the incident to the international news community by their operatives, masking as journalists, is another example as how low there are prepared to go. While the Royal Grenada Police band is not the Government, it must be understood that due to the nature of the incident the band must be held responsible for its actions. NDC foolishly feel that this is another opportunity to score some points while Grenada is hurting…a feather in their demented caps. One does not have to be scientific to understand the motive behind their despicable and venomous behaviour. Absolutely nothing is beyond the desperate and immature minds of these misfits. The nation was appalled at the NDC pranksters openly gloating at the incident, in full view of the cameras. They disrespected their invitation to the ceremony by not acting responsibly as Parliamentary Representatives. What is the nature of this troubled bunch? Many of NDC’S members wear different hats and are doubly dangerous to Grenada: (1) They are the worst example of politicians this country has ever encountered. (2) They are the biggest liability and disgrace to our legal justice system…as well as fake-patriots. They were fake-patriots during the revolutionary days and are fake-patriots today. The NDC is beating a dead horse. While the investigation is ongoing…so as to leave no stones unturned, the Chinese Government and People have accepted our sincere apology and moved on, but NDC, in typical fashion wants blood. Mr. Tillman Thomas is so preoccupied with the Prime Minister that he is now beginning and ending every statement or casual conversation with his scripted propaganda lines on the Prime Minister. The problem is that he is so new to the propaganda style and rhetoric that one can actually see the lies on his face. The NDC is making countless trips trying to solicit funds to finance their propaganda machinery. It is known that their well placed operatives are not providing their respective services gratis. One would think that the deep-pockets NDC would want to upstage the Government and build at least one (1) house for a needy supporter…”Joke-you-making.” The Government wants to make it abundantly clear that for the short term, medium term, and long term, we will do everything to assure that the friendship between the Government of Grenada and the People’s Republic of China is concretized.
