INSIDE GRENADA

GRENADA: The Government of Grenada is expected to take back a parcel of land (approximately 11,000 sq.ft.) in the south of the island that was sold to former Permanent Secretary (now barrister-at-law) Cajeton Hood sometime back in 1998.
Hood would have purchased the Crown Lands from Government back in 1998 - when he was a civil servant - at a very reasonable price. In 2006, Hood is believed to have sold that same parcel of land to a hotelier for a significant sum of money.
Under the Crown Lands Act, persons who purchase lots from Government are obliged to hold on to the land for a certain period of time or to seek the permission from Cabinet in order to sell the land. It would seem that Hood had not done so, hence the reason for Government’s action.
