CATEGORY:POLITICS -------------------- INSIDE GRENADA Saturday February 17,2007 GRENADA: An editorial appearing in one of the local newspapers, known to be partial towards the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the leadership of the party to ‘deal decisively’ with the Kenrick Fullerton affair.’ Hon. Kenrick Fullerton is a member of the NDC and the present parliamentary representative for the constituency of St. Andrew’s S.E. Sometime last year, the young parliamentarian had to be investigated by members of his party following allegations that his insurance brokerage firm had collected premiums from individuals but had not paid the money to the respective companies on time. The investigation cleared him of wrongdoing but recommendations were made for him to try to improve his business skills. Recently, Fullerton has again found himself at the center of another humiliating controversy surrounding allegations of wife-beating and abuse. This seems to have surfaced from a domestic dispute involving another young lady. The matter has since received extensive publicity. The leadership of the NDC has promised a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the facts of the matter and assured the public that appropriate action will be taken. The editorial went on to state that this ‘…is not the stuff one expects of any member of Parliament or any person who is offering himself for public office in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique… Mr. Fullerton has youth on his side and might be able to bounce back politically in the years ahead if he has the will and determination to do so. However, enough is just enough where this gentleman is concerned.’ Some time ago, a member of the NDC party who practices medicine, was alleged to have ‘improperly touched’ a young lady at his private office. In recent times, there has been an allegation of another individual who is closely aligned to the party under invoicing goods coming into the country which resulted in him having to pay somewhere in the vicinity of EC$80,000.00. There is also the matter of the citizenship issue of Peter David and some court matters in the United States. The NDC is a party that has consistently spoken about morality, transparency and accountability and the leadership seems to have a tough job ahead to try and dispel rumors/ allegations - that can further smudge the reputation and credibility of the party - and put the NDC on a sound footing as it prepares to contest the next general election, constitutionally due in 2009.
