GRENADIAN OPPOSITION BEING PRESSURED TO APOLOGISE TO GO...
The Grenada government has called on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to withdraw statements it is alleged to have made attacking the office of the Governor General. Attorney General Elvin Nimrod has also called on the NDC to apologise to the Head of State for the offending statements made last week. In a statement Mr. Nimrod said the opposition was showing disrespect for the office of the Governor General. "The Government believes that the Governor General and his office should at no time be an issue in local partisan politics, and should never be a target of any political party," Nimrod's statement read. "We therefore call on the Leader of the Opposition to demonstrate his commitment to democracy; respect for institutions; and adherence to the law; by immediately withdrawing the statements made and apologizing to the Governor General." However NDC spokesman Nasim Burke has denied the allegation. Mr. Burke says the party is concerned that the office of the Governor General is being abused by government officials. In his statement, Nimrod said the government expects the Opposition Leader, "who promotes himself as the biggest crusader of Accountability, Transparency and Morality to act immediately to apologise for an unfounded, scurrilous, and vicious attack on the Head of State of our beautiful country Grenada."
