CATEGORY:ECONOMIC NEWS -------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA Thursday February 22,2007 ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada: The Government of Grenada, in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), yesterday (Wednesday February 21, 2007) officially launched a Country Poverty Assessment Survey in Grenada. The launch took place at the Grenada Trade Centre Annex at 8:45 am. The objective of the survey was to determine the extent and severity of poverty throughout the tri-island state, in light of the fact that the Grenada Government has been focusing its social programmes on the eradication of poverty, as is evident in the themes of the budget in recent years. As a result of the significant changes in the social, physical and economic landscape of the country, it is necessary that a comprehensive assessment of the current situation be carried out to adequately address the issues. The survey will involve an institutional analysis; a national survey of living conditions and household budget; and a participatory poverty assessment. The survey of living conditions and household budget, which will involve most of the field work, will take place between March 17 and June 30. The entire project is expected to be completed within an eight-month period with the final report due at the end of October, 2007. The results of the survey are expected to generate information that will guide the future social and economic policies and programs of the government. The official launch yesterday will be followed by a two-day National Orientation Workshop for various stakeholders.
